San Diego Spirit News Release

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Spirit has unveiled a modified logo for their third season in the WUSA. The change to the modified logo, which replaces the eagle's head insignia, is the first since the club's inception in 2000.

The modified logo, designed by Spirit director of marketing Paige Jackson and graphic artist Myles McGuiness of San Diego-based 9 Myles, Inc., will be incorporated into all aspects of the team's image, including uniforms, merchandise, marketing and advertising. The biggest change to the modified logo is the absence of the eagle's head, which adorned the club's inaugural design. San Diego's modified logo has the familiar navy, gold and maroon color scheme featuring a larger soccer ball as the focal point, with the "Spirit" word mark in gold with white and navy trim centered over the top of it. The letters in "Spirit" are now solid, without the navy insets. Trailing behind the ball is the recognizable swoosh of colors including navy, gold, white and maroon. The words "San Diego" in white, trimmed by gold and navy colors, appear above the ball and word mark. The soccer ball in the design remains the same.

"We feel that the new logo and the bolder presence of the navy and gold colors better capture the Spirit of San Diego," said Jackson. "The modified design also reflects the many positive changes that we have made, and the excitement and energy that is surrounding the team in preparation for the upcoming season."

The San Diego Spirit is a charter member of the WUSA and plays their home matches at the 7,035-seat Torero Stadium on the campus of the University of San Diego. The Spirit kicks off their third season of action on April 5, against the Boston Breakers. Kickoff is 6 p.m. PT.
