San Diego Spirit Match Preview

June 14, 2002 - Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA)
San Diego Spirit News Release

The Spirit ventures to the nation's capital in search of a win that can end a three-game losing streak. San Diego needs to work at both ends of the field to put together a winning effort. The defense must solidify, as opponents have scored two or more goals in six of nine matches. A slumbering offense, which has scored only four goals in the last six games, must awaken. There will be a key match-up when San Diego defender Joy Fawcett face Washington rookie forward Abby Wambach. The sensational striker from the University of Florida leads the Freedom with three goals and three assists. With San Diego entering its second game under new interim head coach Kevin Crow, the Spirit will attempt to record their first road win this season, while trying to end a three-game skid. The Freedom are currently riding a three-game unbeaten streak. Mia Hamm tallied the game-winning goal in her 2002 debut against Boston on Wednesday at home.

FREEDOM NOTES...
