San Diego Spirit News Release
Philadelphia comes to San Diego to face the Spirit after defeating the Carolina Courage, 3-1, on Wednesday night in a battle for first place in the WUSA. The Charge will be looking to avenge its only loss of the season as San Diego defeated Philadelphia 1-0 on May 19. Despite the loss, Philadelphia leads the all-time series 2-1-1. The Charge is undefeated in four straight matches and has remained atop the WUSA standings all season. San Diego has dropped four straight after handing the Charge its first and only loss of the season. The Spirit has been outscored 11-2 in those four matches. "It is obvious that Philadelphia is at the of the top of the standings for a reason, " said interim head coach Kevin Crow. "They lost arguably the best player in the league (Kelly Smith) and are still producing. Marinette Pichon is filling the role nicely and will be a difficult assignment for our team.''
