San Diego Spirit News Release

Spirit defender Kim Pickup will be swapping flip throws for teleprompters on Monday, May 12, as she will be trading places with KNSD NBC 7/39 sports anchor Jim Laslavic in the first of a four part series designed to bring San Diego TV sports personalities to the Spirit's training field, while players head for the studios.

Monday will begin with Laslavic, a former Penn State University and NFL football player, training with the team at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista. Later, Pickup will be anchoring the sports segment during the live 6 p.m. newscast at KNSD's downtown studios. This will be Pickup's first TV anchoring gig, after debuting on radio as co-host of the bi-weekly half-hour "Mac & Cheese Show" on KFMB 760 AM with teammate Shannon MacMillan during the 2001 season.

The trading places theme will also take place on the national stage when the Washington Freedom's Mia Hamm will become the NBC's "Today" show newsreader, replacing Ann Curry, who will be strapping on the shin guards on Wednesday, May 14. Various Spirit players will be trading places throughout the month of May with local TV sportscasters.
