San Diego, CA - San Diego Loyal SC (SD Loyal) announced today the acquisition of defender Joshua Yaro, pending league and federation approval. Yaro joins his teammates just in time for the club's second-ever season, which kicks off Friday, April 30 against Phoenix Rising FC.

"Josh has proven to be one of the best defenders in the league and we are very fortunate to add a player of his quality to our roster," said Landon Donovan, EVP of Soccer Operations and Manager. "He is intelligent, technically very good, physically very athletic and will add experience and leadership to our backline."

Yaro, 26, moved from Ghana to the U.S. on a scholarship to Cate School in California before playing college soccer at Georgetown University for three years. Selected No. 2 overall in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by the Philadelphia Union, Yaro made 23 appearances in three seasons before a stint with Bethlehem Steel FC (now Philadelphia Union II). He played the last two seasons with San Antonio FC, appearing in 45 matches and scoring one goal.

"I'm extremely excited, grateful and thankful to be a part of this organization," said Yaro. "This club is built to win and I'm ready to play my part in helping the team achieve bigger things this season. I'm ready and eager for the start of the season this Friday and can't wait to play in front of our Loyal fans on May 29th."

Season Ticket Memberships are on sale now for five payments of $20 through April 30, 2021. Seats can be purchased by calling (858) 465-GOAL or at sdloyal.com/tickets. For frequently asked questions about attending matches this season, click here.
