San Diego loses third straight
June 8, 2006 - Golden Baseball League (GBL) News Release
San Diego (3-5) starting pitcher Brent Pourciau (0-2) once again had a rough first inning. Ryan Webb led off the game with a single and stole second. Randall Shelley then singled in Webb to make it 1-0 Armada. With two on and no one out Pourciau walked Jeff LaRue to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Pourciau then walked Chris Wakeland to bring a run in to make it 2-0 Long Beach. They weren't done yet. After striking out first baseman Samone Peters, Pourciau gave up a single to shortstop Jeremy Hernandez and it was 3-0 Long Beach.
Long Beach would add two more runs in the top half of the third to make it 5-0 Armada. San Diego had their best opportunity to score in the fourth inning with runners on second and third and two outs but failed to convert.
The Armada would hit two solo home runs, one in the eighth and one in the ninth, off of San Diego reliever Aaron Wilson. Andre Simpson (1-1) pitched beautifully for Long Beach. In 8.0 innings, Simpson struck out 11 and only allowed four hits.
The Dawgs and Armada will do it all over again tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. PST from Tony Gwynn Stadium. Justin Ottman (0-0, 1.29 ERA) will try to get San Diego back to their winning ways when he takes on Ryan Claypool (0-0, 1.50 ERA), who will throw for Long Beach.
