San Diego Hosts Tucson in Week Three Western Conference Matchup

April 2, 2023 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

On Monday April 3, the San Diego Strike force will host the Tucson Sugar Skulls at Pechanga Arena in San Diego. Kickoff set for 8:05 p.m. CT and the Strike Force are looking for a bounce back win after a heartbreaking finish last weekend against the Quad City Steamwheelers. After coming up just short in week one, the Strike Force will look to their resilient effort in hopes of a different result against the Sugar Skulls. Despite the loss, the Strike Force were definitely able to create some momentum to motivate the squad for week two as well as the rest of the 2023 campaign.

After an unfortunate 47-49 loss week one vs. Quad City, the Strike Force will attempt to get back in the win column against the Sugar Skulls. The Strike Force looked as if they were about to complete an astonishing comeback but a failed two-point conversion attempt just before time expired left the Strike Force heartbroken. Focusing on the positives from game one, the offense was very effective and efficient putting up 47 points. The offensive scheme did a good job of distributing the ball to every skill player on the field, keeping the Quad City defense guessing as to who the target would be. When it comes to where the Strike Force can improve, the pass defense will no doubt be an area of focus this week of practice as Quad City was able to find the holes in the Strike Force defense. A key for the Strike Force is to not get behind early and try to utilize their weapons to get an early lead.

The Sugar Skulls will start their 2023 campaign on Monday, and have made some big offseason signings. Including re-signing veteran, former NFL offensive lineman Isame Faciane and former NFL defensive back Al Louis-Jean. The Sugar Skulls have a talented group and will look to improve on their 2022 record of 9-8. It should be an entertaining game this Monday and will help shine some light on where things stand in the Western Division.
