San Diego Aviators News Release
CARLSBAD, Calif. - The San Diego Aviators have signed American Christina McHale to play all four matches of their season-opening road trip, which begins on Sunday, July 14 against the New York Empire. McHale, a resident of Englewood Cliffs, N.J., will replace Australia's Astra Sharma on San Diego's roster.
The 27-year-old McHale, currently ranked No. 108 in the Women's Tennis Association singles rankings, holds one career WTA singles title and has represented the United States in the Olympics and Fed Cup. In 2012, she achieved a career-high No. 24 in the WTA singles rankings.
Following the season opener in New York, McHale and the Aviators will continue the four-match road trip as they face the Philadelphia Freedoms on Monday, July 15 and the Washington Kastles on Tuesday, July 16. San Diego will close out the road trip on Wednesday, July 17 against the Orlando Storm.
"We are thrilled to have Christina McHale join the Aviators for their season-opening four-match road trip," said Aviators General Manager Cari Buck. "Having McHale and her brother-in-law Ryan Harrison on the team for these first four matches will help give the Aviators a strong start this season."
The Aviators will play their home opener on Friday, July 19 when Rancho Santa Fe native Taylor Fritz leads San Diego against Sam Querrey and the Vegas Rollers at 7 p.m. (PDT) at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
