Sam Kerr Voted NWSL Player of the Month

October 2, 2019 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release

CHICAGO - Sam Kerr of the Chicago Red Stars has been voted September Player of the Month by the NWSL Media Association.

The attacker scored five goals with three assists as the Red Stars clinched a spot in the NWSL Playoffs. With their guaranteed second-place finish, the team will host a playoff match on Sunday, October 20, at SeatGeek Stadium.

Kerr was named Player of the Week as well in September when she scored a pair of goals in Week 23. Kerr's first couple of goals during the month of September came early, on September 8, against the Houston Dash in a 3-0 win. Her first assist of the month would be on the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Orlando Pride. She assisted in the next match against Sky Blue FC, along with a goal, as the Red Stars won that contest 3-0. On September 21, Kerr scored two goals, tying and then breaking hers and the NWSL's single-season scoring record with her 17th and 18th goals of the campaign. She also assisted teammate Yuki Nagasato in the match that ended 3-1 for Chicago against Washington Spirit. The Red Stars were perfect in the month, winning all five games they played.

North Carolina Courage attacker Lynn Williams finished second in Player of the Month voting. Attacker Yuki Nagasato, from the Chicago Red Stars finished third in the voting.

The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis. For more information on the NWSL Media Association, follow them on Twitter at @nwslmedia.
