Harrisburg Senators News Release
BOWIE, Md. - The Senators trailed the Baysox 2-0 with one out in the ninth before Sam Brown launched a three-run homer to take the late lead. RHP Luke Young (W, 3-0) locked down the 3-2 win, retiring the side in order in the ninth.
Talented lefties Josh Hartle, in his Harrisburg debut, and Joseph Dzierwa battled to start.
The Senators had an early opportunity against the Dzierwa with men on second and third and no outs in the second but could not score.
Hartle retired the first 13 Chesapeake hitters he faced. He allowed back-to-back singles in the fifth but escaped the jam with two strikeouts to end the inning and hold the scoreless tie.
Meanwhile, Dzierwa tossed six scoreless frames, allowing only four hits, walking none and striking out nine.
Later in the bottom of the sixth, Hartle left with a man on first and one out. RHP Robert Cranz came on and got a fielder's choice groundout for the second out. He then issued a walk and a wild pitch to put men on second and third with two outs.
Anderson De Los Santos knocked a groundball single through the infield to score two, and the Baysox took a 2-0 lead.
In all, Hartle allowed one run in his 5.1 innings on just three hits, no walks and seven strikeouts.
In the seventh, RHP Holden Powell worked around a hit, walk and a wild pitch with a couple of strikeouts to strand two in scoring position for a scoreless inning.
Young came on for the eighth and worked a one-two-three inning, striking out two.
Onto the ninth, still trailing 2-0, Elijah Green ripped a line drive into leftfield for a one-out double. It was the Sens' first hit since Kervin Pichardo 's one-out double in the fourth.
Pichardo, the next hitter, drew a walk to put the tying runs on base with one out.
Sam Brown came up and fell into an 0-2 hole against the Baysox' RHP Ryan Long and battled. He launched a high fastball out to right for his fifth homer of the season, putting the Sens on top 3-2.
Harrisburg looks to keep it going with another win Friday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Yoel Tejeda Jr. (0-1) is scheduled to start.
