SALT LAKE STALLIONS at BIRMINGHAM IRON

Saturday, February 16, 2019 | Legion Field | Birmingham, Ala.

TEAM NOTES

Team captains for the Stallions were No. 8 QB Austin Allen and No. 51 LB Greer Martini.

The Stallions dynamic duo running attack of RB Branden Oliver and RB Joel Bouagnon eclipsed over 160 yards in total offense - the first duo in Stallions history to surpass the 100-yard mark in a single game.

Oliver rushed 14 times for 59 yards while hauling in an additional two catches for 21 yards. Bouagnon ended the game tallying 70 yards on only 11 carries, including one touchdown and a season long 24-yard burst down the left hash mark.

A strong showing by the Stallions defensive unit held the downhill rusher Iron RB Trent Richardson to only 41 yards rushing on 19 attempts. Richardson only averaged 2.2 yards per carry on the day.

Appearances in the red zone proved to be at a premium on Saturday, leaving the Stallions to only convert on one of three trips to the redzone. The Iron converted on their only single appearance late in the fourth quarter.

Special teams woes on both sides led to a struggle for either team to win the turnover margin, with each team fumbling three times and two causing loss of possession. Iron K Nick Novak missed a 53-yard field goal and Stallions K Taylor Bertolet sent two kicks wide of the goalpost, with one aimed to tie the game with 1:03 left in the fourth quarter.

PLAYER NOTES

LDE Karter Schult led the defensive stand against the Iron finishing the game with six tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, a pass deflection and a forced fumble.

To date, Schult is the current league leader in sacks (3).

QB Austin Allen made his first professional start against Birmingham, serving under center for the injured QB Josh Woodrum (hamstring). Allen completed his inaugural start completing 15 passes on 31 attempts for 114 yards.
