Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Anchorage, AK - The Victoria Salmon Kings and Alaska Aces continued their West Division Final at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage, AK on Saturday night with Game 2. Goaltender Todd Ford got the nod in net for the Salmon Kings, while the Aces started J.P. Lamoureux.
The Salmon Kings controlled the play through the first 10 minutes of the opening frame, but were unable to get on the board. The Aces broke through on their second shot of the game when Scott Burt broke down the right side and fired a shot off the post it bounced right back into the crease hitting the back of Ford's leg and slipped into the net. The Aces would then take advantage during a 4-on-3 power play, Cam Keith stood to the right of the Kings' net and hit Colin Hemingway with a pass as the Aces' forward cut through the slot. Hemingway buried the puck behind Ford for the 2-0 lead. Just over a minute later, while on a 5-on-4 power play, Alexandre Imbeault skated into the high slot and fired a puck past a screened Ford into the top corner. The Aces would hold a 3-0 lead after the first period.
Alaska would increase their lead to 4-0 when Keith found the rebound of a Bryan Miller shot and converted it for the power play goal. Darryl Lloyd would light the lamp for the Salmon Kings for the first time in the series when he deflected a shot fired by Wes Goldie the left face-off dot past Lamoureaux. The Aces would reestablish their four goal lead when defenseman Ryan Turek picked up the puck and split the Salmon Kings' defenders before slipping a backhander between the legs of Ford. It was 5-1 Alaska through 40 minutes.
Julien Ellis would replace Todd Ford in net for the third period, but would not fair much better than the Kings' starter as the Aces would tack on three more goals in the final frame. Scott Burt, Josh Soares and Tomas Kana all counted goals for Alaska. Scott Howes scored for Victoria in the third period. Aces 8 Salmon Kings 2.
Victoria went 2/9=22.2% with the man advantage and Alaska went 5/10=50%. The Salmon Kings out shot the Aces 37-22.
