Saints Set for Two Game Series in Green Bay
January 21, 2021 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
The Dubuque Fighting Saints are back on the road for two this weekend as they take on the Green Bay Gamblers on Friday and Saturday. The Saints are fresh off two straight wins at home and have now won five of the last seven games since they won their final game of 2020. With two road games and two conference games, the Saints have a chance to win in two scenarios that have not been friendly to them thus far. Get ready for a big series against the Gamblers with your pregame primer.
-Dubuque is currently 2-6 on the road this season and 3-12 in conference. Dubuque has done well to make up a bit of ground in the Eastern Conference standings but winning inside the conference will be a key for Dubuque moving forward.
-The Saints have two games this weekend against Green Bay, and then two against both Waterloo and Des Moines the following weekend. From February through the end of the season, the Saints will have just three games against the West.
-The Gamblers were swept last weekend by the Muskegon Lumberjacks, moving them into third in the Eastern Conference. Before that sweep, Green Bay was 6-1-1. The Gamblers rank as the best defensive team in the conference.
-Last time out, Dubuque outplayed Green Bay for 40 of 60 minutes, but still wound up losing 6-2. The Saints were down 3-0 after two in that game but outshot the Gamblers 29-11. Aaron Randazzo made 36 saves in the win.
-Not many teams generate their offense from the blue line in. However, this seasons Green Bay team does just that. Mason Lohrei is sixth overall in points this season and the only defenseman with over 20 points so far.
-New additions have created a noticeable spark in the Saints production over the last few weeks. Dubuque grabbed two wins from Reilly Herbst last weekend in his debut. Matt Savoie poured in four points over his first two USHL games. Andrei Buyalsky had his best weekend of the season and now has six points in nine games with Dubuque.
-Mr. Steady for Dubuque is Connor Kurth. Kurth has 19 points in 20 games and continues to lead the USHL in rookie scoring. Kurth has points in 12 of 20 games and has five multi-point games this season.
-Dubuque is six points back of fourth place in the East, with only one team in front of them not having games in hand. That puts even more of an emphasis on these upcoming games for the Dubuque.
-Puck drop is set for 7:05pm on both nights. Dubuque won't return home until the first week in February.
