Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Matt Morris was solid in net, and the offense came alive as the Fighting Saints beat the Sioux Falls Stampede 4-0 in Dubuque on Friday night.

After a consistent powerplay attack came up empty for the Fighting Saints, Dubuque was able to capitalize on an opportunity as the teams returned to even strength. Eliot Grauer carried the puck ahead through the neutral zone, and dished it to Jono Davis through the slot. Davis buried the chance to put the Fighting Saints up 1-0, giving his team a lead it would hold through the remainder of the first period.

The Fighting Saints success on the powerplay continued in the second period. Midway through the frame on the man advantage, Cody Bradley sent a beautiful saucer pass from the right corner across the slot to Matt Caito, who fired the puck top shelf to give Dubuque the 2-0 lead. Three minutes later, with the teams at even strength, TJ Moor fed Jake Downing in front for Downing's first goal as a Fighting Saint, and fourth point of the season. Late in the frame, with another powerplay chance, Caito fired a puck towards the net

Neither team scored in the final period, as the Fighting Saints put the finishing touches onto Matt Morris' first shutout of the season, in which he recorded 30 saves. The Fighting Saints will conclude their stretch of three home games in four days on Saturday with a matchup against Fargo at 6:05 p.m. The Fighting Saints homestand of six games will close on Friday, January 6, when the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders travel to the Key City for a 7:35 p.m. matchup.
