Saint John Riptide News Release

(Saint John, NB): Come watch the girls work it! The Saint John Mill Rats Dance Team will be holding public auditions this Friday, September. 30th at 7:00pm, in the Market Square Atrium. The top dancers will be competing for a spot on the dance team.

"We're excited to see some new faces auditioning this year and also, to have the audience involvement. This component allows for more interaction from the community as they have a chance to vote on their favourite dancers," says Tiffany McCarthy, Dance Team Coordinator.

This will be McCarthy's second year in the city and she is more than excited for the season to start. "Each year we plan to raise the bar for these dancers. In doing so, we hope to increase their opportunities and exposure as dancers and as a team. The newly formed National Basketball League of Canada will no doubt raise awareness for these dance teams and also for Canada's love of Dance!"

The dancers will be selected by the audience as well as by a panel of guest judges. Some of the featured judges include Allison Fitzpatrick of DanceQuest, Melanie McKiel of Step In Time Dance School, Leanne Charleton, Saint John High School Cheer Coach for 20 years, Rachelle Perkins of Baila Fitness Studio, Jamie Rogers-Wilson of Danceability and Jeff Burgess of Lawson & Creamer.

The girls have been taught two routines by choreographers Melanie McKiel, one of the aforementioned judges, and Christina Marshall of Saint John, currently working aboard cruise ships as a dancer.

The judging panel and audience vote will be tallied together and the results will be revealed at Tonic on Friday, October. 7th. Doors open at 10pm and the girls are set to dance at 11:30pm. For those of you who want to make Friday night an evening, Tonic will be offering $4 Moosehead beer and bar shots from 10pm to 12pm. Admission $5.

Come on out this Friday and vote for your favourite Millie - no admission, just bring a smile and your best cheer!
