
Saguenéens' Christopher Gibson Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that 2011 NHL Entry Draft prospect Christopher Gibson of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season. For the week ending February 27, Gibson recorded three wins including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .966.
Gibson picked up his fourth shutout of the season to open his week on Thursday in a 3-0 win over the Lewiston MAINEiacs. He made 36 saves including 16 in the third period and was named first star of the game. He was named first star again on Saturday after a 30-save performance in a 4-1 win over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, before stopping 19 shots to defeat the Drakkar 4-2 again on Sunday.
Gibson, an 18-year-old Finnish native is playing in his second QMJHL season with the Saguenéens. Ranked second among North American goaltenders by NHL Central Scouting for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Gibson leads the QMJHL with both a 2.05 goals-against-average and a .931 save percentage in 31 games played.
Peter Di Salvo of the Oshawa Generals was nominated for the award for the second straight week after posting a 2-0-0-1 record with a shutout win and a goals-against-average of 1.91 and save percentage of .949. Thomas Heemskerk of the Moose Jaw Warriors went 1-0-0-1 with a shutout win and posted a 0.48 goals-against-average and a .984 save percentage.
