Francisco Lujan said all the right things in accepting the job to build an outstanding professional UIFL team, talking of how high standards on the field and off the field are the utmost importance of building deep the Sting with the community.
The Saginaw Sting and Lujan agreed to a three-year contract that will pay a net base and is "back end" loaded based on performance. This is how Lujan wanted his contract structured, so expect a very competitive team in Saginaw, actually the football fans of Saginaw MI have received an early Christmas gift with the agreement that was reached with Lujan, he is a well-seasoned and experienced coach who has already placed over two dozen players into high leagues", stated Mike Esposito the UIFL's commissioner.
Lujan, 32 began his coaching career as the defensive back coach at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, CO from 2000-2005. In 2004 Lujan was the Assistant Head Coach for the Erie Freeze where he was a part of a 16-1 franchise that fell in the AIFL's Governor's Cup. He held a similar position in 2005-06 for the Odessa Roughnecks of the IFL where his teams won the IFL championship. In 2005 Lujan accepted the head coaching position for the Cineplex Blue Devils in Hohemns, Austria. For the three years as the Blue Devils "field general" he guided his teams to a 42-10 record winning many conference titles in the very powerful European league in Austria. In Lujan's off season he continued to coach wide receivers and special teams at Dana College in Nebraska. This past off-season Lujan served as Jefferson High School football coach in Denver. Lujan earned in Bachelor's Degree from Mesa State College in Business Management as well as his MS degree in Sports Administration.
"The fans that are going to come to the Dow Event Center this year will be greeted by the best local and area talent in the game and you're going to see a boatload of Pop Warner/College and high school coaches come out and become a part in the Sting organization stated Lujan," Lujan also stated that the games will be the most exciting thing to do in the entire state for the months of February through April, we have some awesome promotions and giveaways planned for all seven home games that will cater to fans of all ages!
Lujan's acceptance was also warmly greeted by many of his former players, who have already contacted him about playing for the Sting.
The Ultimate Indoor Football League's Saginaw Sting will open its season on Friday February 18, 2010 at the Dow Event Center at 7:30 pm against the Eastern Kentucky Drillers.
