Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Sacramento, Calif. - With campuses currently closed, schools have shifted to virtual learning due to COVID-19. Part of a student's virtual school day is physical education. To help kids keep active, the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) and Sacramento Republic FC are teaming up to provide online and television broadcast physical education resources.
"Republic P.E." is a series of brief, physical education enrichment videos produced by Republic FC in partnership with SCOE. Pro and academy players and team staff from Sacramento's professional soccer club lead students in grade appropriate lessons. Teachers, students, and families, can use the lessons to supplement student learning and keep students active.
"These video lessons are a great way to engage kids and focus on their physical health," said David W. Gordon, Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools. "We want to get children up and moving and we are grateful the Sac Republic players will be leading children in fun workouts."
"Health and fitness are fundamental to what we do and our focus is always on supporting community wellbeing," said Sacramento Republic FC President and COO Ben Gumpert. "As one of our core community investment values, we're excited to support teachers and families by providing fun workouts and trainings for all students in the region to promote healthy living and learning."
Students can participate in the virtual P.E. lessons through their mobile devices and computers, and on select cable providers through the Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium. The lessons are in partnership with SCOE and leading PE teachers from around the County, and range from ninety-seconds to ten minutes in length, depending on the targeted age group.
