RENO, NEV., November 7, 2012 - The Sacramento Kings have assigned forward Tyler Honeycutt to the Bighorns, it was announced today. This marks the first NBA player assigned to the Bighorns this season.
Honeycutt (6'8" - 188) was also assigned to the Bighorns last season, appearing in 10 games for the team. He averaged 5.9 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.
"We're excited to have Tyler back with us," said Bighorns coach Paul Mokeski. "This is a great opportunity because he will be with us during training camp, which will make his transition smoother. Tyler will get a chance to show he is healthy and can play at the highest level."
Last season with the Kings, Honeycutt appeared in 15 games and averaged 1.3 points per game. He was drafted by the Kings in the 2011 draft, with the 35th overall pick. Honeycutt played two seasons at UCLA, where he averaged 10.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
"This is a great opportunity for Tyler to get valuable minutes on the floor and improve his game, so that when he returns to the Kings, he'll be ready for the call," said Bighorns owner Herb Santos, Jr. "This is exactly what the D-League is intended to do, develop young talent."
The Bighorns open their fifth season in Reno on Friday, November 30th at 7 p.m. against the Santa Cruz Warriors. Opening Weekend continues on Sunday, December 2nd at 3 p.m. Season tickets and group tickets are on sale today. For more information, fans can call 775-853-8220.
