(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans General Manager Jody Gage announced today that goaltender Tom Askey and left wing Andrew Peters have re-signed with the Buffalo Sabres.
Askey agreed to a two-year deal with the Sabres and returns to the American Hockey League's Rochester Americans for his fourth season. The Tonawanda, NY, native has played in 79 games with the Amerks. In his career, he has a 34-31-11 record and a 2.68 goals-against average. During the 2000-01 season, he won the Harry "Hap" Holmes Award, along with Mika Noronen, for being the AHL's outstanding team goaltenders.
This is Askey's eighth season as a professional. He was originally the Anaheim Mighty Ducks' eighth-round selection (186th overall) in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. He played his collegiate hockey at Ohio State University before joining Anaheim's AHL team in Baltimore during the 1996-97 season. He would spend four seasons with the Ducks' organization and appear in seven National Hockey League games. In his NHL career, he has a 0-1-2 record and a 2.64 goals-against average. Askey signed with the Amerks in 2000-01 and has played in Rochester for three seasons.
Peters returns for his fourth season with the Buffalo Sabres organization. During the past three seasons, the rugged winger has registered seven goals, five assists and 729 penalty minutes in 173 games. He currently ranks 10th on the Amerks' all-time penalty minute list. During the 2001-02 season, he led the AHL with 388 penalty minutes, the second highest single-season total in Amerks history.
The St. Catharines, Ontario, native was the Buffalo Sabres' second-round selection (34th overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
