San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats announced today that they will be holding an open player tryout on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 a.m. at their practice facility in Sunnyvale, Calif. at 1095 Dunford Way. Those interested in participating can register at www.thesanjosesabercats.com/2013-open-tryout/. Participants will receive an opportunity to exhibit their skills in front of members of the SaberCats coaching staff and player personnel department.

"Two seasons ago we were very fortunate to discover one of our key players, Fred Williams at our tryout," Owner and Head Coach Darren Arbet said regarding the open tryout. "This year we are keeping our eyes open for more difference-makers that will be able to help us in the 2014 season."

Testing will include a 40-yard dash and a 20-yard shuttle run that will be conducted on field turf. Additional tests will include a vertical jump, broad jump and bench press on a hard surface with position-specific drills on grass. Those wishing to participate must bring their own shoes with cleats required for position specific-drills and tennis shoes for artificial and hard surface testing. Participants must also bring their own shorts and accessories with no pads required. All camp activity will be non-contact. Participants should arrive dressed and ready for testing. No lockers are available.

Williams, a breakout rookie in 2012 and the team's second leading receiver in 2013, was discovered during the 2011 open tryout. The former St. Cloud State receiver currently has 91 receptions for 1,175 yards and 20 scores and also ranks third in the Arena Football League in all-purpose yards per game at 171.7.

Online pre-registration is available now for a fee of $50 which must be paid by credit card only. Day-of tryout registration will be accepted for a fee of $75 and must be paid in cash.

The tryout is subject to cancellation should weather conditions be non-conducive to obtaining accurate results for testing. Should a cancellation occur, the tryout will be postponed to a later date. In the event that a postponement occurs, that information will be available on the team's official website.
