SaberCats Move to No. 2 in Latest AFL Coaches' Poll

July 9, 2014 - Arena Football League (AFL) News Release

CHICAGO - The San Jose SaberCats (11-4) parlayed a 75-34 victory over the LA KISS (3-12) in Week 17 into jumping up two spots to No. 2 in the latest AFL Coaches' Poll, leapfrogging the Cleveland Gladiators (14-1) and Pittsburgh Power (13-3). San Jose, who handed the top-ranked Arizona Rattlers (14-1) their lone loss of the year two weeks ago, clinched the Pacific Division championship with last weekend's win. Darren Arbet's team will host the Tampa Bay Storm (8-7) this Friday, July 11 at 10:30 p.m. ET on ESPN3.

The Arizona Rattlers used last week's bye to recover from their first loss in nearly a year. The back-to-back defending ArenaBowl champions will square off with the equally well-rested Spokane Shock (8-7), ranked fifth in the Coaches' Poll, this weekend in "NET10 Wireless Arena Football Saturday" action on CBS Sports Network. Kickoff is set for 10:00 p.m. ET.

Despite a five-game winning streak and a 61-40 victory over the Portland Thunder (4-11) in front of a national television audience last week, the East Division-leading Cleveland Gladiators fell one spot to No. 3 in this week's Poll. Cleveland can lock up the division title this week with a win over the San Antonio Talons (1-14). Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. ET Saturday on ESPN3.

A close call with the New Orleans VooDoo (2-13) in Week 17 caused the Pittsburgh Power to fall one spot to No. 4 in the latest Coaches' Poll. Pittsburgh has a bye in Week 18 but will return to action next week against the Iowa Barnstormers (6-9).
