San Jose SaberCats News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats announced today that they have been assigned a pair of rookie defensive linemen on one-year contracts; former Oregon Duck Terrell Turner and former Texas State Bobcat Michael Ebbitt.
"Solidifying our defensive line is a priority for us and both Terrell and Michael do just that," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "They each possess a very good ability to provide pressure on opposing quarterbacks and we are excited to bring them to San Jose."
Turner (6-3, 265, Oregon) spent the past five years as a member of the Oregon Ducks, where he appeared in the BCS National Championship Game (2011) against Auburn, as well as two Rose Bowls (2010, 2012) against Ohio State and Wisconsin, respectively. Turner made 43 career appearances for the Ducks, posting 103 total tackles, 11 sacks, 18.5 tackles for loss, forced one fumble, recovered two more and had an interception. He had a breakout season as a senior, playing in 14 games as a key component of a talented defensive line. The Los Angeles native finished with 49 total tackles, five-and-a-half sacks with both a forced and recovered fumble. That level of production earned him All Pac-12 honorable mention accolades to go along with being named the team's Most Improved Player as a junior.
Ebbitt (6-4, 275, Texas State) transferred to Texas State, reuniting with Head Coach Dennis Franchione, who originally recruited him to Texas A&M where he began his collegiate career (2007-10). During his senior season with the Bobcats, Ebbitt led the team in sacks with 11.5 in 12 appearances and also posted 35 total tackles, 15.5 of which were for loss, forced one fumble and recovered two more. The Southern California native recorded four sacks in a game against Nicholls on his way to being named College Sports Madness NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision Independent Defensive Player of the Year and earning first team All-Independent honors.
