San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats announced today that they were assigned former UNLV defensive back Mike Grant, who joins another former Rebel defensive back, Ruschard Dodd-Masters in San Jose. In a separate transaction, the SaberCats activated newly acquired linebacker Dexter Jackson from the refuse to report list.

"Mike provides us with some more quality depth in our defensive backfield," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "He has proven to be a good tackler and has good ball skills."

Grant (5-11, 185, UNLV) spent two seasons with the Rebels, after playing the first two years of his collegiate football career at Sierra junior college in Rocklin, Calif. As a senior at UNLV, Grant accumulated 17 solo and 22 assisted tackles in 13 appearances. In his junior campaign, he appeared in all 12 of UNLV's games at cornerback, where he started five contests. He wrapped up his first season at the FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) level with 26 total tackles, including 15 solo stops, an interception, as well as both a forced and recovered fumble.

The Fresno, Calif. native intercepted 13 passes and recorded 81 total tackles for the Sierra Wolverines from 2007-08, forcing six fumbles and recovering one as well. Grant also showed his knack for the big play, finding the end zone twice in 2008, returning both a fumble and a punt for scores on separate occasions.
