SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats announced today that they have been assigned defensive backs Jackie Bates and James Sadler. Bates is a former member of the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League and Sadler is a four year Arena Football League veteran.
"We needed to make some adjustments and these two bring a lot to this football team," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "Jackie brings us some quality experience from the NFL and James is an AFL veteran who will be able to come in and contribute right away."
Bates (5-10, 200, Hampton) most recently spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played two seasons. In 2009, he was in training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs after being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Hampton and concluded the season as a member of their practice squad. The Concord, Calif. native played two seasons for the Hampton Pirates, where he recorded 76 total tackles, four interceptions, forced two fumbles and recovered one as well in 17 appearances. He transferred from Oregon, where he played in 22 games, posted 67 total tackles and one interception before leaving the program.
