Ryan in Good Condition
Published on January 26, 2007 under Texas League (TL1) News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan, 59, was admitted Friday to the Round Rock Medical Center outside of Austin, Texas for recurring symptoms of a pre-existing medical condition.
Ryan, a majority owner of the Round Rock Express and Corpus Christi Hooks, Triple-A and Double-A affiliates of the Houston Astros, was evaluated by Express team doctor Tim Robins. All initial evaluations were normal and Ryan is in stable condition. He will be transferred to Houston for more evaluations.
"This is something I've lived with for the last seven years," Ryan said. "I appreciate all that Dr. Robins and the Round Rock Medical Center did for me. I'm looking forward to being in Houston next week for the Nolan Ryan Elite Pitching Camp at Minute Maid Park."
Ryan, in his fourth season as a Special Assistant to the General Manager with Houston, will spend part of next week working with current major and minor league Astros pitchers, including Brad Lidge, Chris Sampson, Troy Patton and Matt Albers.
Ryan spent 27 years in the Major Leagues with the New York Mets, the California Angels, the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers before retiring from baseball in 1993. His 5,714 strikeouts and seven no-hitters remain Major League records.
