Edmonton, AB--The Edmonton Rush have acquired a pair of draft picks in two separate deals on the National Lacrosse League's trade deadline day.

In the first trade, the Rush sent goaltender Steve Dietrich to the Toronto Rock in exchange for the Rock's second-round pick in the 2009 NLL Entry Draft. Following that trade, Rush GM/Head Coach Bob Hamley acquired a first-round pick in the 2009 NLL Entry Draft from the San Jose Stealth in exchange for defender Andrew Biers.

"The 2009 draft is a deep one and it is a big benefit for us to stockpile some additional picks," noted Hamley.

Dietrich, who was picked up in the off-season in a trade with the Calgary Roughnecks, dressed for all 10 Rush games this season and made seven appearances between the pipes. The veteran netminder sported a 1-4 record with a 14.00 goals-against average and a .742 save-percentage. The former NLL most valuable player allowed 69 goals and made 198 saves.

With the trade of Dietrich, the Rush will go with the goaltending tandem of Chris Levis and Brandon Atherton who has yet to appear in a Rush uniform since being signed as a free agent during the summer.

Biers was acquired by the Rush during the 2008 NLL Entry Draft when Edmonton swapped positions in the first round with the Minnesota Swarm. He appeared in only two games for the Rush and did not register a point. Biers scooped up four loose balls and was 19-for-44 in faceoffs.
