Chicago Rush News Release
January 6, 2003 â The Chicago Rush begins preparations for the 2003 Arena Football League season this week by hosting a three-day mini-camp, immediately followed by the start of training camp.
The 37-man training camp roster includes 14 players returning from the 2002 squad, six AFL free agents and 17 rookies. All players will report Tuesday, January 7, with mini-camp practices set for 8 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, through Friday, January 10.
"We are looking forward to the start of camp," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "We did not like the way last season ended and we can't wait to prove ourselves and show that we are better. We didn't lose any starters from last year's team, so it should give us an advantage at the start of the season.
Training camp will open with two-a-day practices Saturday, January 11, and run through Friday, January 24. The Rush must cut down to its regular season 24-man roster by Sunday, January 26.
During training camp the Rush, along with the Grand Rapids Rampage, Detroit Fury and Indiana Firebirds, will converge at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis for two days of group practices on January 13 and 14. The trip will be highlighted by a full-scale scrimmage between the Rush and Fury, complete with AFL officials, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 14.
Additionally the Firebirds will bus to Chicago to scrimmage the Rush at noon on Wednesday, January 22.
All Rush practices are open to fans and the media. Coaches and players will be available to the media after the second practice each day (approximately 11:30 a.m.). Media should contact the Rush communications staff for exact practice times and locations.
The Rush kicks off its 2003 AFL season Sunday, February 2, at Allstate Arena against the Orlando Predators. Fans wishing to purchase season tickets, starting at $64, should call the Rush at (877) Rush-Tix (787-4849) or visit the team's Web site at www.chicagorush.com.
