Rush Rookie Sorichetti at Training Camp

December 13, 2013 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Edmonton Rush News Release

Edmonton, AB---It's never easy being a rookie coming into your first pro camp. For first-year pro Adrian Sorichetti, the adjustment has been fairly smooth as he enters the final weekend of the Edmonton Rush's training camp for the 2014 National Lacrosse League season. But Edmonton's second-round pick from 2013 NLL Entry Draft isn't afraid to admit that being nervous is just as big a hurdle to overcome as the other talented players vying for positions on the team.

"The nerves have been going all camp," said Sorichetti. "This opportunity is what every lacrosse player dreams of growing up. It is a bit of a mental adjustment playing in the professional league but in reality, it's the game of lacrosse.

"The coaches have done a great job teaching the systems and every teammate has been there for one another making sure everyone is comfortable and confident in what is expected this season. I am thankful to be a part of such an amazing team and organization."

The six-foot, 200-pound transition is regarded as being highly athletic - a key component on a Rush team that employs Keenan's system of up-tempo attack and hard-pressing defense. Those attributes have played a huge role in putting Sorichetti in position to crack the lineup of the silver and black.

Sorichetti was a big fish in his previous pond. The Whitby, Ontario, product starred at Hofstra University in New York, earning All-Colonial Conference First Team All-Star recognition in 2012 and completing his senior season third on the Pride in goals and points. Sorichetti, who won a Minto Cup with a Whitby squad commanded by Rush GM/Head Coach Derek Keenan, also earned major recognition for a huge game against St. John's, netting seven goals and adding three points.

Despite being in his first pro camp, Sorichetti does come to the Rush with a good bit of experience. He spent part of this summer playing for Brooklin in Ontario's Senior "˜A' circuit, and he has a wealth of national and international exposure as well. Sorichetti suited up for Canada and won silver at the World Under-19 Field Lacrosse Championship, and won gold with Team Ontario at the Canadian Under-19 Field Lacrosse Championship.

After swimming at the head of the class in college, Sorichetti is now fighting amongst the sharks to crack the big-league roster.

"So far camp has been going well not only for me but the entire team," said Sorichetti who will see action in Saturday's exhibition tilt against the Buffalo Bandits at Six Nations, Ontario.

"My teammates are great, there's a lot of chemistry in the locker room, and the coaching staff is very knowledgeable and blends well with every player. The pace is quick and tempo is high every time we practice. Something that has been an adjustment is the ball movement. The ball moves a lot quicker both in the defensive and offensive end, along with up and down the floor in the transition game."

General Manager/Head Coach Derek Keenan goes into the second Rush training camp seeking to complete the final roster for the 2014 Rush Season. The team is required to submit a 20-man active roster, along with a maximum 4-man practice player roster, by Monday, December 16th.

"I expect the pace to be higher and the execution to be better. We need to really ramp it up in preparation of our pre-season game against Buffalo Saturday." states General Manager/Head Coach Derek Keenan

"This is our first and only pre-season game so we need to play hard and execute. They played twice last weekend so we will have to work hard to catch up to their pace."

"It's important. We are really down to about 2 spots with 5-6 guys in the mix. How they respond in NLL action will be part of the evaluation."
