Chicago Rush News Release
One week after AFL teams were allowed to begin signing free agents for the 2006 season, the Chicago Rush has added two AFL veterans to its roster. The team announced today it has signed lineman Curtis Eason and WR/DB Jacques Rumph to three-year deals.
"Signing Eason and Rumph is a great way to kick off our free agent season," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "Eason has been a consistent player throughout his career, and we felt he was the Destroyers' best lineman in 2005. He should help add depth to our already strong line.
"Rumph proved last year he can do some great things when he got a chance to play. He is a solid route runner who is very dangerous when he gets the ball in his hands and should fit in well with our receiving corps."
Eason (6-2, 290, East Tennessee State), a six-year veteran, joins the Rush after spending the 2005 season with the Columbus Destroyers. Prior to his year in Columbus, Eason spent three seasons in Orlando (2000-2002), winning an ArenaBowl title as a rookie, and two years with Detroit (2003-2004). He has played in 79 career games, recording 108.5 tackles and 19.5 sacks.
Rumph (5-8, 180, Carson-Newman) comes to Chicago after spending the first two years of his AFL career in New Orleans. After playing in just five games as a rookie in 2004, Rumph was the VooDoo's third-leading receiver in 2005, catching 69 passes for 711 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also added 24.5 tackles and two passes broken up.
The Rush roster now includes 22 players. Teams are allowed to bring 37 players to training camp in January, but must cut down to 24 by opening day.
