Chicago Rush News Release

Chicago Rush FB/LB Bob McMillen, the Arena Football League's all-time leading rusher and one of the 20 greatest players in AFL history, has decided to play one more season, McMillen announced today.

"After spending the last month discussing it with my family - especially my wife and my father - I have decided to play one more season and retire from the AFL after the 2007 season," McMillen said.

"I still have a passion for the game and would like the opportunity to return to the Rush to help my teammates defend our ArenaBowl XX title. In addition, my wife and I are expecting a daughter this summer, and although she might not remember it, I would like her to be able to see me play the way my two sons have been able to.

"I plan to work out hard this off-season and come to camp in January in the best shape of my career."

McMillen will enter his 13th season ranked first in AFL history with 1,417 career rushing yards, second with 449 career attempts and third with 80 rushing touchdowns. In addition, McMillen is the only player in AFL history to win an ArenaBowl title with three different teams (Arizona, San Jose and Chicago).

McMillen became a free agent as of July 1, and cannot sign with the Rush, or any AFL team, until later this fall.

"Not only is Bob McMillen a great football player, but he has been a great ambassador for the Rush throughout his career in Chicago" said Rush president/general manager Mike Polisky. "We are excited to know he wants to play one more season, and look forward to discussing a contract with him once the league rules allow us to do so."

The Rush defeated the Orlando Predators 69-61 June 11 in Las Vegas to capture the ArenaBowl XX title. The win capped an amazing playoff run in which the underdog Rush won three consecutive road games on its way to the championship game.
