Rush coaching staff complete and ready for season
January 29, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Chicago Rush News Release
With the start of training camp just a few weeks away, Chicago Rush head coach Mike Hohensee has reorganized his coaching staff, promoting coaches Brian Schwartze and Ryan Leonard, the team announced today.
Schwartze, who has handled the team's player personnel since July 2005, was promoted to vice president of player personnel and football operations. He also will continue to coach the team's defensive backs.
Leonard, the team's wide receivers coach the past two seasons, will add the responsibility of special teams coordinator as well as assist with player personnel matters.
"I truly believe we have the best coaching staff in the AFL, bar none," said Hohensee. "I think that is one of the biggest reasons we have been so successful in our six seasons - including winning the ArenaBowl last year.
"I am excited to be able to promote Coaches Schwartze and Leonard. Brian Schwartze possesses all the qualities you would want in an assistant coach - both on and off the field. He is going to be a very successful head coach in the AFL some day soon.
"Ryan Leonard is an up-and-coming coach who has put in a lot of time and hard work with us the past three years. I am looking forward to watching him devise ways to confuse opponents with our special teams strategy."
In addition to the promotions, Walt Housman remains the team's assistant head coach and defensive coordinator, and Tony Bowick has been added as offensive line coach.
"Coach 'Hous' is my right hand man," said Hohensee. "He has been with me since 1999 in New England and he is as valuable and as loyal as they come. He does a tremendous job preparing our defense each and every week."
"There is a lot of trust built up between Coach Hohensee and me," said Housman. "It is a pleasure to be on his staff and, after all these years together, we have a great chemistry and truly know what each other is thinking."
Finally, Scott Bailey returns for his second season as player personnel assistant and Matt Flemming has been added as the team's football operations intern.
