NAHL Topeka Pilots

Runners Ram the Bulls 4-3

November 30, 2013 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Topeka Pilots News Release

The Bulls looked like they had Topeka's number after their first five meetings. And then Saturday night happened. Flipping the script and running up a 4-1 lead after two periods, the RoadRunners held on for an exciting 4-3 win over the Amarillo Bulls.

Starting off on the wrong foot, Amarillo's Dean Rhymer was called for tripping at 1:25 paving the way for Tyler Poulsen's power play goal at 1:45 (assisted by Jake Kamrass and Ryan Polin). Ryan Ammirato responded with a power play goal of his own at 3:24, knotting the score at 1-1 where it would stay until the second period.

In the middle frame, Sly Sutter got the ball rolling downhill with a netter at 6:34 (assisted by Jasen Fernsler and Mike Gornall) that restored the lead to one. A short time later, Poulsen made it a two-goal lead with a little help from Kamrass and Peter Halash at 9:10. And at 17:18, Cody Champagne found the backdoor on Paul Berrafato (assisted by Fernsler and Sutter) to close the period with the Runners up 4-1.

In the decisive third, the Bulls cut the lead to 4-3 thanks to goals by Timmy Moore and Carter Penzien (at 1:36 and 16:52 respectively). The stage was set for a furious finish in the final minutes until Kyle Gattelaro received a five minute major and a 10 minute game misconduct that left the Bulls a man down for the remaining 1:53. Pulling Berrafato didn't make a difference as PJ Bridges and the RoadRunners defense held the red line and the win 4-3.

The RoadRunners will hit the road for Springfield next weekend to play the Junior Blues. Fans can catch all of the action at Blind Tiger Brewery and Restaurant on Friday and Saturday night at 7pm. This Sunday morning, the Capitals finish their series against the Dallas Junior Stars at 11am. The game will be preceded by a Pancake Feed at the Expo's Exhibition Hall at 8am thanks to the RoadRunners Booster Club with proceeds going to Topeka Youth Hockey. Adults can eat for $5 and children can eat for only $3. For more information on upcoming games, call 785-286-PUCK or visit www.topekaroadrunners.com.
