Topeka Pilots News Release
After analyzing game tape from Friday's 3-2 win over Amarillo, the RoadRunners coaching staff was looking for improvement in certain areas of the game and got it as Topeka posted a 5-0 win over Amarillo on Saturday night.
Spotted to a 5-on-3 power play in the opening minutes, the 'Runners were unable to score but defenseman Bob Marx was able to give Topeka a 1-0 lead on an even strength goal at 12:58, a screened shot from the right point assisted by Dan Dupell. At 17:59, Jordan Davis snapped home a crisp high glove side onetimer off the faceoff to the right of Bulls goalie Mac Haight for a 2-0 Topeka lead.
In the second period the 'Runners power play registered a goal at 6:24 with Kevin Novakovich shoveling in his second of the preseason, assisted by Michael Hill and Jacob Poe. In the final minute of the period, Chris Bond snapped home a low wrister at 19:30 assisted by Ryan White for a dominating 4-0 edge.
The teams battled through a penalty laden third period and Topeka added an exclamation point with a Brian Christie power play goal at 18:34, assisted by Billy Coole. Goaltender Rasmus Tirronen from Espoo, Finland turned aside all 20 shots he faced as the 'Runners recorded a 5-0 win and a preseason series sweep over their new South Division rivals.
The RoadRunners (3-0-0 preseason) wrap up the weekend with the Second Annual Pepsi Alumni Game Sunday at noon. They will conclude their preseason with a pair of games against another new South Division rival in the Corpus Christi Ice Rays at Pepsi Ice Midwest in Overland Park.
