Rugby ATL Faces NOLA Tonight in Virtual Match

April 2, 2020 - Major League Rugby (MLR)
Rugby ATL News Release

ATLANTA - The two teams meet again this season, but with a virtual twist. Rugby ATL takes on NOLA Gold this Thursday, April 2 at 8pm EST in MLR 2020: Virtual. One Rugby ATL player will be logging on Thursday evening in hopes to keep Rugby ATL's win streak alive. The match includes one player from each team competing against one another in Rugby 20, a virtual game streaming live.

Fans can engage in the action by activating virtual matches via Twitch, the world's leading live streaming platform for gamers, to keep up with live stream competitions among the MLR teams. The games are coinciding with the regular season MLR schedule. Players will compete in full MLR kit and will have live commentary from their teammates.

"These matches definitely fill the void right now by remaining competitive," said Rugby ATL's Forward Paris Hollis. "But there's the other side of me that misses laying people out or running over somebody on the pitch."

Last week's matchups for MLR 2020: Virtual had Rugby ATL beating the RUNY 7-5, while the Austin Gilgronis defeated the Utah Warriors 17-15. Atlanta was represented by forward Duane "Big Toko" Aholelei and joined by virtual player-coach Paris Hollis. A tightly contested first half saw New York grab the lead 5-0, however, Atlanta quickly tackled the lead late in the second half with a try and the eventual game-winning conversion for a 7-5 victory.

While fans can be sure MLR will return #ToPlayAnotherDay, the MLR and its clubs respond to the cancelation as an opportunity to showcase rugby's dedication to supporting local communities and keeping the spirit of competition alive. All MLR teams will raise money for Feeding America's COVID-19 Response Fund that is built to help food banks across the country during this challenging time. Fans who donate will be entered into Fan of the Match prize giveaways.

Stay tuned on @USMLR Twitch Channel for more rivalrous banter and chances to give back to the community through @feedingamerica.
