Rugby ATL Battles New England in Regular Season Finale

April 3, 2020 - Major League Rugby (MLR) - Rugby ATL News Release

ATLANTA - Rugby ATL is prepared to challenge the New England Free Jacks for the first time this season - albeit, virtually. Both teams will select a player to represent their teams to compete against one another in Rugby 20 via a live stream this Saturday, April 4 at 6pm EST. Players will compete in full MLR kits, and will include live commentary from teammates.

Fans can engage in the MLR 2020 Virtual action by activating each match via Twitch, the world's leading live streaming platform for gamers, to keep up with competitions amongst the MLR teams. The games are coinciding with the regular season MLR schedule.

Thursday's matchups had Rugby ATL falling to the NOLA Gold 7-14. Atlanta was represented by back Martini Talapusi and joined by virtual player-coach Ross Deacon. First half saw the determined NOLA Gold take the lead 14-0. Atlanta's ball movement helped gain its way to earn a few points before the final whistle leaving Rugby ATL short 7-14.

"A tough loss for the boys and big ups to NOLA for a tight game," said Rugby ATL's forward Ross Deacon. "We're definitely looking forward to capitalizing on our opportunities against New England Free Jacks and bringing home the win."

While fans can be sure MLR will return #ToPlayAnotherDay, the league and its players saw this as an opportunity to showcase rugby's dedication to supporting local communities and keeping the spirit of competition alive. All MLR teams will raise money for Feeding America's COVID-19 Response Fund that is built to help food banks across the country during this challenging time. Fans who donate will be entered into Fan of the Match prize giveaways.
