Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed defenseman Louis Liotti ["lee AH tee"]. Last season, Liotti (6'1/204) (25), who hails from Westbury, New York, registered thirteen points (1g-12a) and forty-three penalty minutes in fifty-two regular season games for the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL last season. Liotti also picked up an assist and four penalty minutes in ten games with the Worcester Sharks of the AHL last year.

Liotti, who will be entering his second year of pro, started last season in Worcester before being assigned to the K-Wings in late November. In December, he picked up four assists, including his first pro point, and played to a plus-4 (+4) in eleven games for the K-Wings. After earning a five game call up to the W-Sharks in late January, Liotti re-joined Kalamazoo for that team's drive to the ECHL's North Division regular season title. During that stretch run, Liotti notched his first pro goal on February 26, 2010, when he scored the game's first goal in Kalamazoo's 4-3 victory over the Gwinnett Gladiators. Shortly after that, in his first trip to the Sovereign Center to take on the Royals on March 4, Liotti assisted on back-to-back goals just seven seconds apart in what proved to be a five goal second period for K-Wings in their 6-3 win that night over Reading. Liotti also played in all five games of the epic American Conference Quarter-Final showdown between the Royals and Wings, which Reading won in overtime in a decisive Game Five at the Sovereign Center.

Prior to turning pro, Liotti put together a stellar four-year career at Northeastern University, which culminated in his senior season when the Huskies ran off a twenty-five win season and earned a berth in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1994. At the conclusion of that season, Liotti was selected as Hockey East's Best Defensive Defenseman and was also honored as a semi-finalist for the annual Walter Brown Award which is bestowed upon the best American-born Division I hockey player in New England. Recently, Liotti, who played to a collective plus-26 (+26) in his last three seasons at Northeastern, was selected to the school's All-Decade Team.

The Royals host the team's tenth anniversary home opener on Saturday, October 23, 2010 (7:05 pm), when the Elmira Jackals visit the Sovereign Center.
