August 30, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Adam Comrie ["KOM ree"]. Reading acquired Comrie's qualified ECHL rights from the Greenville Road Warriors in exchange for the qualified ECHL rights to defenseman Mike Montgomery and defenseman Colten Hayes earlier in August. Comrie (6'4/219) (22) is the twelfth player (and fifth defenseman) announced as signed by the Royals for the 2012-13 season, joining forwards Ethan Cox, Tyler Gron, Chris Langkow, Trevor Lewis, Ian O'Connor Yannick Tifu, Jesse Todd and defensemen Derrick LaPoint, Bryant Molle, Denny Urban and Brad Walch.
Last season, Comrie, a third year pro from Ashburn, Virginia, who was in the second season of an NHL entry level contract with the Florida Panthers, began the year with the Cincinnati Cyclones where he registered six points (3g-3a) and two penalty minutes in four games. One of Comrie's goals for the Cyclones came against the Royals at the Sovereign Center on October 22, 2011, in a 3-2 win for Reading. A third round pick of Florida in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Comrie was released from his contract with the Panthers in mid-November. Late in the season, Comrie signed with Greenville, playing three regular season games (1g-0a) and one playoff game for the Road Warriors.
In his rookie season, 2010-11, Comrie played forty-four games with the Rochester Americans of the AHL, where he picked up five points (0g-5a) and eighteen penalty minutes. Comrie also recorded eight points (4g-4a) in thirteen games with the Cyclones that year-as well as a goal in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal Playoff Series against the Royals. Prior to turning pro, Comrie played three seasons of major junior in the Ontario Hockey League, recording ninety-eight points (33g-65a) and 239 penalty minutes in 178 total OHL games. In 2009-10, he led defensemen on the Guelph Storm in scoring with forty points (14g-26a) in sixty-eight OHL games. In his first year of OHL action, Comrie led defensemen on the Saginaw Sprit with ten goals.
