Greeneville Astros News Release

Burlington, NC - The Burlington Royals (5-6) took advantage of their early opportunities against the Greeneville Astros (4-7) on Sunday night at Burlington Athletic Stadium and never looked back. After a six-run first inning, the Royals cruised to an 11-0 shutout win.

In the bottom of the first inning with one out, the Royals loaded the bases with two walks and a single by Brandon Dulin. Then, they managed to score in a multitude of ways including a batter hit by a pitch and two walks with the bases loaded. In addition, they also scored on a fielding error, a Ryan Dale RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Amalani Fukofuka.

The scoring continued for the Royals in the second inning with a Chase Vallot RBI double and a Joshua Banuelos RBI single to put the Royals up 8-0. That is the way the score remained over the next four scoreless innings that followed until the Royals struck again.

Meibrys Viloria led off the seventh inning for the Royals being hit by a pitch. Cristian Cano immediately followed with a RBI triple. Then, Ryan Dale brought Cano home on a ground out to give the Royals a double-digit lead. Finally, in the eighth, Cano concluded the scoring with a sacrifice fly to score Brandon Dulin.

Burlington had four pitchers combine to hold the Astros to just four hits, but reliever Ian Tompkins was credited with the win after pitching 1.2 innings and striking out three while walking one and giving up one hit. Foster Griffin, the 28th overall selection in this year's First-Year Player Draft, started the game and pitched two innings with three up and three down before exiting.

The Astros will look to avoid a sweep in game three with Burlington on Monday. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
