Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA - The Omaha Royals drew 319,777 fans to Rosenblatt Stadium during their 2006 season, which wrapped up on Labor Day. It was the largest season total for the Kansas City Royals' Triple-A affiliate in the past four years.
This year's total attendance figure was the best for the team since the 2002 season, when 344,718 fans came to watch the Royals play. Omaha's average attendance over 69 home dates in 2006 was 4,634 per game, up from the 4,278 average posted in 2005, an increase of better than eight percent.
The 2006 season, which marked the 19th consecutive year that over 300,000 fans visited Rosenblatt to watch the O-Royals, also brought the club's all-time attendance over the 10-million mark. Since the franchise began play in 1969, a total of 10,228,780 fans have attended the team's games over a total of 2,461 dates. The average attendance in the 38-year history of the team is 4,156.
"The Omaha Royals are grateful for the consistent support from all of our fans - whether they came out to the ballgames as families, in group outings or as a season ticket holder," said Doug Stewart, Royals Senior Vice President/General Manager.
While the Royals only posted a 31-41 record at home in 2006, Stewart also noted that local fans got a firsthand look at third baseman Mark Teahen (Kansas City Royals Player of the Month for July and August) and pitcher Luke Hudson (KC's Pitcher of the Month for July and August), two examples of players who went on to have a successful season in the big leagues.
While at Rosenblatt Stadium this season, more than 500 customers completed a fan survey. The Royals management will review those fans' desires on everything from promotions, to ticket packages, to game times in preparation for the 2007 season.
