ST CLOUD-The St. Cloud Rox bats broke out early in their game Thursday against the Thunder Bay Border Cats, with six first inning runs pacing an 8-4 Rox victory in front of 1,462 fans at Joe Faber Field. The win puts the Rox record at 14-13 and moves them to within 2.5 games of first-place Willmar in a crowded North Division pennant race.

After a pair of groundouts to begin the bottom of the first inning the Rox rattled off eight straight hits en route to a 6-0 lead. Andy Henkemeyer (Minnesota), Carlos Lopez (Cal- State Fullerton), Nick Tanielu (Washington State), Boo Vazquez (Pittsburgh), Adam Martin (Western Carolina), Elvin Soto (Pittsburgh) and Mark Rhine (Wake Forest) all had singles and Chris Paul (California) capped the rally with a two-run double.

The Border Cats made a go of it with four runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut the St. Cloud lead to 6-4 after four. The Rox got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth inning when Soto singled for his second RBI of the game and Paul singled to score Martin to make the score 8-4.

Thunder Bay twice threatened with the bases loaded late in the game, including in the top of the ninth, but the 'Cats were unable to put together a scoring rally.

The Rox are back in action at Joe Faber Field for game three of the nine game homestand with a game against Thunder Bay Friday night. It's also Fireworks Friday, presented by Health Partners Clincs with a postgame fireworks extravaganza planned.
