Rowdies Add Former Orlando City Midfielder Joey Dezart
March 8, 2024 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Tampa Bay Rowdies News Release
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla - The Tampa Bay Rowdies today announced the addition of experienced midfielder Joey Dezart for the 2024 USL Championship season, pending league and federation approval.
Dezart, a defensive midfielder, has been embedded with the Rowdies for most of the preseason as a trialist. The 25-year-old New Jersey native has featured in all five of Tampa Bay preseason contests so far, gaining valuable minutes with his new teammates.
"My experience here in Tampa Bay has great so far," said Dezart. "All of the players and staff have welcomed me and made me feel like a part of the team from day one. I can see everyone here is on the same page and determined to achieve the same goals. I'm happy to be with the Rowdies and I'm looking forward to having a successful season and hopefully winning a championship at the end of it."
Following a four-year career at Wake Forest University, Dezart was selected by Orlando City SC in the 2020 Major League Soccer Superdraft. Over three years with Orlando, Dezart split his time with the senior team in MLS and the club's developmental side Orlando City B. He ended his stint in Orlando having made 30 MLS appearances for the club.
In 2023, Dezart signed with MLS Next Pro's Huntsville City FC, where he earned 19 starts over 23 appearances. While with Huntsville City, Dezart also made two appearances as a loanee for Nashville SC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
As a teenager, Dezart appeared in three matches for Jamaica's U-20 squad during the country's 2017 CONCACAF U20 Championship qualifying.
The Rowdies will kick off their eighth season in the USL Championship and their first under new head coach Robbie Neilson on Saturday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. ET when they host San Antonio FC at Al Lang Stadium. Fans can purchase tickets for the match by visiting rowdiessoccer.com/tickets/.
