Round Two: Versatile Williams Back with Thunder

BOARDMAN, OH. - The Mahoning Valley Thunder, in conjunction with the arenafootball2 League Office, is pleased to announce that Defensive Back/Wide Receiver Ray Williams, (6'3, 204), has been assigned to the team. Williams enters his second season in the af2, both as a member of the Thunder.

As a rookie in 2008, Williams quickly established himself as one of Mahoning Valley's most dynamic and talented players. The former Purdue Boilermaker was one of just three Thunder players to start every game. All of Williams' starts came as a Defensive Back though he also saw spot duty as a Wide Receiver. On the season, Williams tallied 44 tackles, 13 pass-breakup's (second on the team) one interception, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, one blocked kick and two catches resulting in 30 yards and a score.

Before joining Mahoning Valley, Williams was a four-year letter winner at Purdue University. As a member of the Boilermakers, Williams lined up at Wide Receiver, Defensive Back, Running Back, and Kick Returner, scoring a combined five touchdowns. At the conclusion of his college career, Williams participated in the NFL's New Orleans Saints training camp and also spent time with teams in both the CFL and AFL.
