Round Rock Express News Release
TACOMA, Wash. - Round Rock was held to just one run for the second straight night and managed only seven hits as the Express fell to the Tacoma Rainiers 9-1 in Sunday afternoon's Pacific Coast League action at Cheney Stadium. The Rainiers (14-23) have won three straight for the first time all season. The Express (17-21) have dropped five straight.
The Rainiers got to Express starter Neil Ramirez in the third inning for four runs. Brandon Bantz led off the third with a double to left. Next, Trayvon Robinson reached on an error by Matt Kata and two batters later Carlos Truinfel walked to load the bases. Then came Luis Jiminez who smacked a grand slam to deep center to five the Rainiers a 4-0 lead.
The Express response in the fourth was muted as they tallied just their lone run of the day. Kata walked to lead off the inning and was driven in by a Yangervis Solarte double.
The Rainiers would add four more in the bottom of the fourth. Scott Savastrano led off the inning with a single followed by a Johan Limonta ground-rule double down the left field line to put runners on second and third with no outs. Then, Bantz drove in Savastrano with a sacrifice fly. Next, Ramirez hit Robinson with a pitch who then stole second in the following at-bat. Luis Rodriguez then singled the right field to drive in a pair to make it 7-1. Ramirez would walk Truinfel before he was removed from the game. Jiminez added another RBI-single off Ben Snyder to extend the lead to 8-1 before a Vinnie Catricala double play ended the attack. Tacoma added one more run in the sixth on a second error by Kata that allowed Bantz to score to make it 9-1.
Anthony Vasquez (4-2) earned the win for Tacoma. He tossed six innings and only allowed one run on seven hits and two walks and he struck out three.
Ramirez (4-3) picked up the loss for Round Rock. He threw three and one-third innings and allowed eight runs, seven of which were earned, on six hits and three walks and he struck out four.
Jiminez led the way for Tacoma with a pair of hits, including a grand slam, to go along with five RBI. Limonta and Bantz each recorded a pair of hits and Luis Rodriguez had a single and two RBI.
Only four Express hitters picked up hits in the game. Julio Borbon, Solarte and Ryan Spilborghs each had a pair of hits with Solarte picking up the lone RBI. Brad Nelson added a single.
