Roughriders Sign former Sioux All-American

Bismarck- February 4, 2003 - The Bismarck Roughriders of the National Indoor Football League have announced the signing of Turtle Lake native and former University of North Dakota standout Ryan Goven.

The 6' 2" 255lb Goven was a 2-time all-state player at Turtle Lake High School before moving on to the University of North Dakota. While playing with the Sioux Ryan was a 2-time All-North Central Conference selection. Ryan was also named All-Midwest Region 1st team as well as being named to the Daktronics and Football Gazette All-American teams. In 2000 Ryan was named the NCC's Linebacker of the Year. During the 2000 season Ryan racked up 65 tackles and 9 sacks. Following his 2001 senior season with the Sioux Ryan signed a free agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ryan spent the entire preseason with the Jaguars playing in four games and recorded a sack against the Carolina Panthers.

"Ryan obviously has all of the tools that it takes to be an impact player in this league," Head Coach Luke Shafer. "Ryan is a winner and has done very well everywhere he's been, he's a great player and a great person and I'm looking forward to having him on our side this season," added Shafer.
