FC Tulsa News Release

Tulsa Roughnecks FC capped a successful week Saturday night with its second win in three days, a 3-1 victory over top of the table Colorado Springs at ONEOK Field. The win snapped a six-game winning streak for the Switchbacks.

The Roughnecks got a pair of first-half goals from Brady Ballew and Kyle Venter, and a second-half stoppage time goal from Kyrian Kidd to cap the big win. With the victory, Tulsa improved its record to 6-8-3 with 21 points, while the Switchbacks fell to 10-6-0 with 30 points.

On a steamy night in downtown Tulsa, the match started sluggishly with neither goalkeeper being tested. Ballew finally opened the scoring in the 31st minute. He found space on the right and fired a right-footed shot that deflected off a defender and past Switchbacks' goalkeeper Devala Gorrick. It was Ballew's second goal of the season and his first since scoring the franchise's first-ever goal on opening night against Oklahoma City.

Eight minutes later, Venter doubled the lead. On a corner kick, Chad Bond's cross sailed over Gorrick and onto the head of the Tulsa defender who nodded it home to make it 2-0. It was Venter's first goal of the year.

After the halftime break, the Switchbacks needed only six minutes to get back into the match. In the 51st minute, Venter was whistled for a foul inside the penalty area, and Colorado Springs' midfielder Luke Vercollone converted the ensuing penalty kick to trim the Tulsa lead to 2-1.

The goal changed the flow of the game as the Switchbacks pushed forward in search of an equalizer. Vercollone and Jordan Burt both forced Feener into saves.

With Colorado Springs pushing forward, Tulsa substitute nearly put the game away in the 88th minute. His blast from the edge of the box beat Gorrick but rattled off the crossbar.

Kidd, also a second-half substitute, finally settled things in stoppage time. The forward found himself alone against three Switchbacks' defenders. He kept control and delivered a left-footed finish into the corner of the net. It was his second goal in two matches and his third of the season.

The win was also the second straight for Roughnecks' goalkeeper Jake Feener. He had five saves on the night after recording 13 saves in his USL debut in Thursday's 4-1 win over Orange County.

Midfielder Bond was named the Man of the Match by the Roustabouts for his work at both ends of the pitch.

The Roughnecks will now prepare for the renewal of the now called Black Gold Derby. Tulsa will travel to Oklahoma City on Saturday to take on the Energy at Taft Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7:00pm.
