Sandy, Utah (Saturday, July 11, 2015) - Real Monarchs earn its second win of the season over Austin Aztex in come-from-behind fashion, 3-1, before a record-setting crowd of 11,003 at Rio Tinto Stadium.
After once again conceding the first goal in the 28th minute - when captain Lucas Baldin was tripped up from behind and FW Trevin Caesar buried his resultant one-on-one with GK Eric Osswald - the Monarchs bounced back to did rate the tempo of the match.
Monarchs battled back and 10 minutes later Real scored its first of the night. The Aztex attempted to clear the ball but it was blocked by MF Ricardo Velazco on a header that was picked up by FW Emery Welshman and played back to Velazco, who then found FW Maikon Orellana making a run to the back post. Orellana blasted low in and in the corner past GK Devin Perales for the tying goal.
Two minutes later Monarchs doubled its tally with a goal from Velazco. This time Orellana provided the assist from the top of the 18 yard box and swung it near post to Velazco who nutmegged the keeper for 2-1 lead heading into half.
In the second half, Aztex came out aggressive searching for the elusive equalizer getting off four shots in the first 20 minutes of the second half. Head coach Freddy Juarez made two subs in the 65th minute, bringing on MF Lennon Celestino - and MF Fito Ovalle - on loan for Real Salt Lake. Those players changed the pace of the match in favor of the Monarchs and in the 70th minute Real extended its lead further.
DF Riley McGovern started the play with a clearance which was headed on by Orellana - who already had a goal and an assist on the night - and found FW Emery Welshman who beat his defender, danced around the goalkeeper and tapped it in for the insurance goal.
Juarez' final three substitutes proved vital in closing out the game as the team only allowed the Aztex one more shot in the final 25 minutes of the match.
Real Monarchs improve to 2-9-6 in the season heading into another two-week break, before facing Orange County Blues back-to-back; first away on July 25 and then at home on August 1.
