Rossetta Captures Pitcher of the Week Honors

August 6, 2013 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
East Texas PumpJacks News Release

The Pump Jacks ran their streak to three consecutive Warstic TCL Pitcher of the Week awards on Monday when the league named Nick Rossetta last week's top hurler.

The win keeps the award in the Pump Jacks family for the third week in a row. Robert Parucha had been selected the Warstic TCL Pitcher of the Week for each of the two prior weeks.

Rossetta went the distance on August 3 for his second complete-game shutout of the season, this time blanking the Texas Marshals 8-0. The Long Beach State junior scattered seven hits and didn't walk a batter while striking out a season-high nine. Rossetta threw 110 pitches on the evening, 79 of them for strikes.

Rossetta was hot from the start, retiring seven straight Marshals to open the game and rarely cooled down. The offense started strong as well, scoring in the opening inning and extending the lead to eight runs on eight hits to back their starter.

That very same night, Pump Jacks outfielder Matthew Dickey broke the franchise record for steals in a season. But one thing he couldn't steal from Rossetta was the spotlight after this pitching gem.

It was Rossetta's second complete game of the season, making him one of just four pitchers to go the distance more than once this summer. He lowered his TCL-leading ERA to 1.23 and improved his record to 6-2, tying for second in the league in wins.

A 2013 TCL all-star, Rossetta has totaled a team-leading 59.1 innings pitched for the Pump Jacks, during which he has collected 43 strikeouts while walking just 18 batters. The fiery right-hander has gone at least six innings in each of his last seven starts, giving the bullpen some much-needed rest.

Rossetta is the third Pump Jack pitcher to pick up league honors. He joins Parucha and Jordan Johnson, who won the same award for his complete-game, nine-strikeout effort in Week Four.

The Jacks have had similar success on the offensive side of the ball, nabbing a pair of Warstic TCL Player of the Week awards this summer. Mitch Meyer slugged his way to the award in Week Five, and Garrett McMullen was the winner in the very first week of the season.

The Pump Jacks head on the road tonight to begin a two-game series against the Acadiana Cane Cutters before returning home to close out the regular season Thursday and Friday against the Marshals.

With the season finishing up that means it is the last time for two of the Jacks' fan-favorite promotions. Thursday is Thirsty Thursday, when fans can beat the heat and cool off with draft beers for just one dollar and regular soft drinks for only 50 cents.

Friday is the final Fireworks Friday of the season, presented by CBS 19. The Pump Jacks will set the sky afire with a spectacular postgame fireworks display set to a unique soundtrack. Friday is also Team Poster Giveaway Night, when the Jacks' annual team poster will be given to the first 500 fans. The poster is a great keepsake for the 2013 season, and a very popular item to get autographed.
