Rookie Quarterback Makes Great First Impression
June 3, 2016 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Los Angeles KISS News Release
When Pete Thomas filled in for Nathan Stanley, who suffered a game-ending injury in the second quarter of the Week 8 game against the Arizona Rattlers, he was relatively unknown across the AFL. Prior to that matchup, the rookie had only attempted four passes in his career and had just 22 passing yards. He gave a great first impression and proved a more than capable backup, finishing the game with three touchdowns and 214 passing yards. Thomas went on to have an excellent first career start last week when he completed 16 of 26 pass attempts for 223 yards and six touchdowns.
Thomas finished his college career in 2014 at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, where he set single-season school records for both pass attempts and completions. He started his collegiate career at Colorado State and played in 21 games in his first two years. In 2010, he set the Rams single-season freshman passing record with 2,662 passing yards. He transferred to North Carolina State, where he played one season and graduated with a Bachelor's degree, before moving on to the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
Thomas, a native of San Diego, California, attended Valhalla High School. After he was a three-year captain of the football team and won the San Diego Union-Tribune "Scholar-Athlete" award four times, he was rated a four star recruit by Rivals.com.
