Rookie Defenseman Hotham Inks With Everblades

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president and general manager Craig Brush along with head coach Malcolm Cameron announced the signing of defenseman Scott Hotham for the 2009-10 season. Hotham becomes the second defenseman and seventh player overall signee for Florida for the upcoming season.
The big 6-foot-2, 200-pound defenseman comes to Southwest Florida with an impressive pedigree. Hotham spent four successful seasons at St. Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. During three of the four seasons, he was the top scoring defenseman on his team and in ranked in the top five nationally. During his senior year, he finished second in the nation and on his team to the leading scoring defenseman his teammate and younger brother, Andrew. He accumulated numerous awards during his time at St. Mary's, including; rookie of the year (2005), top scoring defenseman (2005-08), top defenseman (2008), team leadership and MVP award (2009). He was also voted to the 2009 All-Canadian 1st team, a prestigious honor in college hockey.
Hotham said he is ready to turn pro and happy it's in Southwest Florida, "I am so excited to turn pro! I have been wanting this for some time but decided to get my education and further develop on the amateur level over the last four years."
Five days shy of his 25th birthday, Hotham says he is thrilled the Everblades wanted him, "I am thrilled a team like Florida wanted to sign me. They have an unbelievable tradition of winning and I know the players are treated very well by the organization so I am excited about the upcoming season."
Prior to coming to Southwest Florida, however, Hotham will make a stop in Manitoba as he will be skating in the AHL's Manitoba Moose training camp.
Everblades 2nd year coach Malcolm Cameron says Hotham has been on his radar for a long time, "I have followed Scotty for awhile now and I really wanted to add him to our club. He is a super kid, that has been well coached and he is so versatile that we can use him in any situation."
